Exposition Charles IV - Emperor by the Grace of God

Introduction
The exposition „Charles IV. – the Emperor of God’s Grace“ can be placed among the most significant cultural projects of the decade. The aim of the exposition was to remind the wide public of Czech nationhood, history of Czech lands and the Prague Castle and to present them with an unique collection of Czech and world art. For the first time in recent history, the most valuable works of art and sights of Czech origin were gathered. The colourful mosaic of art creation in Prague during the Luxembourg era was reconstructed. Within the scope of the Prague exposition, 220 exhibits, borrowed from more than 90 galleries, museums and private collections from 15 countries, could be seen.

Design of lighting equipment
The design of lighting for the Prague Castle Picture-gallery had been coming to being from the second half of the year 2005 in cooperation with studio SGL projekt Ltd. Existing indirect wall lighting was unsatisfactory for the purposes of the exposition.
 Upper and lower hall
The lay-out and the construction of display panels made it possible to install the voltage track system CHALLENGER that goes through the whole length of both halls in three rows. For lighting of sculptures and paintings, reflector lamps SHUTTLE and TRIMMER, designed both for diachronic halogen bulbs „Decostar Titan 35W“ and for dimmable halogen bulbs „Halospot IRC 35W“, were used.
Special attention was paid to lighting of valuable manuscripts placed in show-cases. High requirements were posed on the quality of lighting with regards to extremely strict conditions of the exposition – especially on elimination of reflections on the covering glass of showcase and thermal burden of the interior space of show-case. The required levels of luminance ranged between 30 and 50 lx. Having evaluated a few possible options, an atypical lighting fitting placed on the show-case and supplied with LED strip Linearlight Flex was chosen. Diodes are supplied through Tridonic controllable transformer placed under the structure of the show-case.
The last task was to illuminate several vitrages. For this purpose, fluorescent lamps OSRAM ECOPACK FH DIM with dimmable ballast were chosen. The temperature of the chromatics of the lamps and LED strips was chosen to be 6500 K, which means daylight white.

Staircase hall
The entrance area of the exposition with highly valuable exhibits did not enable (with regard to the ceiling and lay-out of panels) the usage of voltage track system with reflector lighting fittings. For the lighting of wall paintings and sculptures, atypical wall-mounted lighting fittings with power LED diodes with narrow radiating angle and floor standard lamp CESTELLO for six halogen bulbs with the possibility of direction were used. With regard to the little general lighting of the room, some legends had to be illuminated with the help of LED strips. The switching of the exposition lighting was designed as wireless via Xcomfort system.
