„Conoscere la forma“ - Milan

On display will be a perfect copy of the beautiful sculpture attributable to Praxiteles which was found in the Sicily Channel in 1997. Here it will be interpreted using light, by leading personalities in the cultural field.

The following personalities have chosen to illuminate the Satyr:
- Vincenzo Cerami, journalist and writer
- Gillo Dorfles, art critic and design historian
- Angelo Mombelli, national manager of the Italian division for blindness prevention
- Paolo Moreno, archaeologist

Through this event iGuzzini poetically stresses the original and close relationship between light and works of art, demonstrating how light affects not only the preservation of the works of art, but also the way in which we see, enjoy and understand them.

The visitors of “Conoscere la forma” will become involved in the light interpretations given by the authors. They will ‘read’ the sculpture under the different lights and according to their own perceptions, and will be able to construct their own imaginary illuminations for the Satyr.

Divided into “shapes to see” and “shapes to touch”, Conoscere la forma also presents a series of reproductions of works of art which were designed for a blind audience using a suitable scale and material. They can be touched, explored and discovered through the use of perceptions other than sight.
